Hi,

I'm trying to build PHP 4.3.0 as a DSO for Apache 2.0.54, and I get the following error running configure:

checking for Apache 2.0 module support via DSO through APXS...
Sorry, I cannot run apxs. Possible reasons follow:

1. Perl is not installed
2. apxs was not found. Try to pass the path using --with-apxs2=/path/to/apxs
3. Apache was not built using --enable-so (the apxs usage page is displayed)

The output of /usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs follows:
Usage: apxs -g [-S <var>=<val>] -n <modname>
      apxs -q [-S <var>=<val>] <query> ...
      apxs -c [-S <var>=<val>] [-o <dsofile>] [-D <name>[=<value>]]
              [-I <incdir>] [-L <libdir>] [-l <libname>] [-Wc,<flags>]
              [-Wl,<flags>] [-p] <files> ...
      apxs -i [-S <var>=<val>] [-a] [-A] [-n <modname>] <dsofile> ...
      apxs -e [-S <var>=<val>] [-a] [-A] [-n <modname>] <dsofile> ...
configure: error: Aborting

The configure option is --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs. The file does exist and the path to perl is correct and apache was explicitly build with --enable-so (and when I invoke apache with the -l option to list the built-in modules, mod.so.c shows up).

So, having satisfied myself that reasons 1 thru 3 don't apply, any idea what else might be causing this problem?

Thanks,
Rob
