I didn't find CodeIgniter difficult to learn - a few hours of reading and a few hours of playing. I was comfortable within one evening. The license for CodeIgniter is pretty simple. Since it's unlikely you'll ever need to mess with the framework itself - you can override any object - I don't see it's modification clause really coming into play. The meat of CodeIgniter's license (from http://codeigniter.com/user_guide/license.html): Permitted Use You are permitted to use, copy, modify, and distribute the Software and its documentation, with or without modification, for any purpose, provided that the following conditions are met: 1. A copy of this license agreement must be included with the distribution. 2. Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright notice in all source code files. 3.
