ternary operator ... if/else shorthand; here's the long way to to do it:
if(isset($string2)) {
$string1 = $HTTP_GET_VARS['pid'];
} else {
$string1 = "";
}
-or-
$string1 = "";
if(isset($string2)) {
$string1 = $HTTP_GET_VARS['pid'];
}
