[PHP] using .htaccess to repoint

Hi,
my isp uses wildcard dns to point to the root.
I want to put a .htaccess file in the root to
repoint the wildcard requests to a sub-folder but
leave the normal request alone.
plese help or tell me an article i can read(i've looked but haven't found
one specifically dealing with this.)
