[PHP] Slow to warn...

Hi, I recently upgraded my server and
now, when developing php, the
server takes ages to respond 
to any php bug. 

I.e. When I am trying to debug my
scripts, it takes ages to see what
warning messages I get. 

Is there some check in the php.ini
I used to have set which allows
fast error reporting?

What php developement package
do you recommend for linux?
