You should do it like this (be sure to properly quote your attributes,
and use the 'value' attribute of the 'option' tag):
print "<form action='test.php' method='post'>
<select name='example'>
<option selected='yes' value='1'>One</option>
<option value='2'>Two</option>
</select>
</form>\n";
In the "test.php" page, the selected value will be found in the
$_POST['example'] variable.
