This message might mean that $relative_url points to the same script...
what browser make&model are you using? IE simply loops, without any error.
A small glitch: in case dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']) is empty (root
directory), your header would look as:
http://www.yourdomain.com//relative.php
Note the double slash...
