You should always place quotes around the "Value" parameter;
<input type="text" size=20 name=testvar value="<?php echo $testvar; ?>">
Additionally you should always htmlencode the value parameter:
<input type="text" size=20 name=testvar
value="<?php echo htmlentities($testvar); ?>">
