Try this.
void function MyExampleFunction(theelement) {
theelement.focus()
}
<body onload="MyExampleFunction(document.form_name.element_name)">
The variable theelement will refer to "document.form_name.element_name"
so there is no reason to repeat that portion in the function.

but that's not work ?
