Tks for the tip but it didn't remove all of the files created by the original make install (I hadn't changed any of the file locations). I also used 'make -n install' to try and figure out what had originally been installed and whereabouts. Finally I had to do a lot of snooping around and manually deleting dirs & files :-( There must be a cleaner/easier way of removing 'maked' programs under Linux.
