your httpd.conf needs this ;

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php4 .php3 .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

... and ...

DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.php index.php3
index.php (and others...)
