Hello, I am in need of some help with installing PHP onto a sparc
system running SuSE 7.3. i have downloaded and compiled PHP 4.2.1 but i
seem to keep getting the same error after i execute the module from the
httpd.conf file. i configed with this line:
./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql
--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
i already have both mysql 3.23 installed as well as Apache 2.0.35 and
they are all working well but i get this error when i start the
webserver with the module loaded for php :
Cannot load /usr/local/apache2/modules/libphp4.so into server:
/usr/local/apache2/modules/libphp4.so: undefined symbol: sapi_globals_id
i cannot find an help on this one yet. i think it might be some sort of
bug with the sparc version

Ok.. so I have everything installed and happy except for one tiny problem.
It appears that php.ini is not being read (??!!!??). First some
background:
OS: 2.2.17-21mdk
Web: Apache 2.0.36
PHP: 4.2.1
Now I configured php with the following:
./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --prefix=/usr/local/php
--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/apxs
I put my php.ini file in /usr/local/lib. I also put it in /etc just in
case I was losing my mind!
So the include path should be ".:include" but instead when it tries to
include a file.. it shows include_path='.:/usr/local/php/lib/php'
Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Tanya

Look at phpinfo(), that will tell you where you have compiled it to be.
From the --prefix line, I would have expected it to be in /usr/local/php.

Awesome!! I guess I just did not understand that it would be looking in
the lib dir beneath my prefix. Maybe I am still losing my mind :)
Thanks so much. It works now!!!

We have an Oracle8.i webserver running on a NT server. Which PHP
version should we download and what do we need to do to configure it.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Debra,
You should download php-4.2.1 and when you run configure use the following
syntax:
./configure --with-oci8=/path/to/oracle_home
--with-apache=/path/to/apache/source --prefix=/install/path
That's it. If you need more information on all the configure options just grad
the online user guide at http://www.php.net

Small note:
edit php.ini and load the oci (php_oci8.dll)
./configure don't work on windows - atleast not for the average NT server
user. If you download
http://www.php.net/do_download.php?download_file=php-4.2.1-Win32.zip and
follow the instructions in the readme/install, you should be up and running
within five minutes.

Want to meet other PHP developers in your area? Check out:

Pretty nifty idea... especially given the lack of user groups in the U.S.
I thought for others who had not seen this I would post this. There is
probably already a user group in your area if you live near a major city.
According to the PHPusergroups.org web site
[http://www.phpusergroups.org/groups.phtml?menu=groups] there 189 PHP user
groups in 52 countries.
[/snip]
I have seen some users groups mentioned, which is outstanding. PHP Meetup is
gaining lots of ground with 105 members at last check. Top 5 cities are...
Manhattan (below 42nd St) (5 members)
London, England (4 members)
Ann Arbor, MI (3 members)
Melbourne (3 members)
Washington DC (3 members) [actually tied with Philadelphia, PA and Orange
County, CA]
And I finally saw another San Antonio member. Just want to keep this fresh
in everyone's mind. If you know of other developer lists where php is
discussed please forward this along.
Thanks!

No-one figured this one out? :)
Well, weirdly I had exactly the same problem using the php4isapi module with
II5, which was just a little bit too weird, so I downloaded a different .zip
file (4.2.0) and it worked perfectly first time, strangely enough.
The contents of the zip I downloaded must have been corrupt.
Thanks anyway,
Beth

I'm still getting the dreaded 500 errors installing the cgi version of php
4.2.1. My system is Win95 and Personal Web Server. InstallSheild didn't work
so I went to manual but still have same problems.
My php.exe file is in c:\php. I used the pws-php4cgi.reg to set the
registry. The contents of this file I changed to:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w3svc\parameters\Scrip
t Map]
".php"="c:\\php\\php.exe"
Is the last line correct? .i.e. put everything in quotes and double slashes?
I double click this file and it updates the registry. Is that all I'm
suppose to do to the registry?

Thanks for the response Chris,
Don't know what the problem was. I ended up stripping everything and
re-configuring/compiling/installing both Apache and PHP. The only difference
was that this time I used these instructions @
http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.apache.php . This setup is slightly
different. It uses apxs and generates libphp4.so.
Anyway, now it works. (Woohoo!)

Hi all,
I have previously downloaded PHP 4.1.2 windows installer and installed it.
How do I make IIS recognise PHP files with extension .php4, ie. reference a
PHP4 webpage in the URL ?
Any ideas appreciated.
Many thanks,
Michael.
