[suspicious - maybe spam] [PHP-INSTALL] [suspicious - maybe spam] php 5.0.4 sapi/embed won't link

I am trying to build the sapi embed module in php 5.0.4.  php_embed.c is 
compiled into php_embed.lo, but the library file never gets built, only 
libphp5.so.

My configuration is:
./configure \
--disable-cli \
--disable-all \
--enable-embed=shared
Any idea what's wrong?
