Hi, I have just gotten a computer with Windows XP Home Edition as operating system. To my surprise I find that Microsoft's Personal Web Server won't run on this operating system.
Therefore I wonder if anyone please could recommend some alternative way in which I can create a practical server solution for PHP development on my machine. I would need it ONLY for personal web site development with PHP and MySQL and NOT for serving web pages over the Internet etc. I can see two main ways of approaching this problem: (1) Installing and using another server (which ?) on this operating system. (2) Splitting the hard disk (with some such program as Partition Magic) and then installing another operating system (which?) on the other half and a suitable server on that operating system (which ?). I would appreciate any feedback or ideas on this issue since I really need to get this working asap. Thanks, Thomas
