[PHP-INSTALL] header()

I have upgraded my Windows XP server with Apache 2.0.54 and PHP 5.0.3
and now find that I cannot get  the php code:-
    header("location: index.shtml");
to work.
What I want to do is to switch to another shtml on successful completion
of this script. Is this the correct method to use in Windows?
