exctly.. but it can still be done-- at least as far as your user is concerned. look into the apache mod_rewrite rules. basically, you turn domain.com/user1 behind the scenes into domain.com/?id=user1 using database controls, you can keep track of all of your REAL pages and directories, as well as the ones you want to re-direct.
