I'm not quite so certain about the "standards" but
it seems to me that if the script is busy
processing part of the regular output, and then
goes back to generating headers, you might be
doing a lot of extra processing for nothing... SOP
for browsers and proxy servers is to periodically
request the header only, to determine if the page
needs to be refreshed.
