Having PHP and MySQL on your home computer is useful for developing programs
but it sounds like you really need to hook up with a hosting company who can
expose your designs to the rest of the Internet.

You don't say what you mean by "designs" but I assume that you could use
something like a photo gallery software which allows payment via PayPal, for
example.

There are lots of those out there--some commercial packages and some free ones.
The best way I have found to locate PHP software is to visit
http://www.hotscripts.com/ and look in the PHP and Scripts and Programs
section. In this case I did a search in the PHP section for: gallery PayPal

  http://www.hotscripts.com/search/5311651-2.html

Many of the programs have live demos on the developer site. You can find these
by using the "Visit" button on the right of the listing.

I would suggest that you not accept credit card numbers on your site. At this
point in your computer education, you do not have the skills to protect this
information properly so it is better to transfer that responsibility to another
party. One popular way to pay for items online is via PayPal, the eBay-owned
system which visitors can connect to their credit cards or checking account.

All things told, I wonder if you'd be happier with something like the Yahoo
shops (zshops?) concept where they offer the "shopping cart" services. It
would get you up and selling sooner. A shopping cart is not an ideal first
project for someone learning PHP. There are many complexities involved and if
someone has done the hard work already, why not use it?

Good luck.

James
