One can use either php or javascript for numerous functions, including forms. Is one better than the other? Is cgi better, or more secure, than either?
This is slightly off-topic but I hope this will be allowed, and maybe of interest to others: javascript is very popular, often incorporated into 3rd. party software like web stats, and email subscriptions and newsletters.
