A daily digest is extremely useful for people with limited connectivity. If you are paying by the minute over a slow connection, then collecting 50+ emails (with all the requoted stuff) wouldn't be viable. Same if you pay by the byte.
What doesn't make sense is this kind of so-called digest which seems to be all of everything everywhere nailed into one long email - no saving over the connection, no saving in reading time, and people posting answers to questions which have already been answered.
