Someone mentioned ChiliDog on here. While that is indeed a way to run ASP on a Linux server, there's a free alternative available to that as well, called apache-asp (http://www.apache-asp.org). What it does is it converts all ASP code on your pages to mod_perl in the background, therefore, you'll need to make sure you've got mod_perl on there, and then you're in business. I will tell ya right up front, however, from what I've heard, apache-asp is a real bear to install.
Also, if you're developing on Windows, you don't necessarily have to have IIS in order to test ASP scripts, either. There's a web server out there known as Abyss, available at http://www.aprelium.com, and it's a darn good web server, too -- very stable and easier to install and maintain than Apache. And yes, you can use ASP with it through a 3rd-party extension -- see http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/asp.html for details. While the basic edition of Abyss (which is all you'll need for your development environment) is free, the plug-in for ASP costs $30, which isn't bad. Also, if you're interested in the production version of Abyss, it's $60, which allows you to host multiple domain names on it. However, the Linux versions of the Abyss web servers don't have ASP support, at least not yet. But this is something you might wanna look into -- costs a lot less than upgrading to Windows XP Pro. BTW, I think that with Microsoft requiring an upgrade to Windows XP Pro in order to run IIS, I think Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot right there, because it will make it harder to pursue writing ASP code either as a hobby or as a coursework assignment (especially if it's ASP.net, which Abyss doesn't support, at least not yet), which hands PHP another advantage over ASP right there! B-) Good luck and hope this helps!
