Since you say your server prohibits you from executing exe files, you may not 
have much of an
opportunity to do this.  I wonder, for example, if I opened a zip utility and 
then opened one of
the self-extracting archive files, would it work?

I haven't used it but here is PHP's documentation on it:  http://php.net/zlib

It would help the context to know if your webserver uses Windows or Linux -- it 
affects the
available tools for achieving this end.
