You say that like its a good thing?
Lets go back to basics and try making a webpage that works for every
client,
then you can add in "enhancements" later.

The page incorporates the Google Maps API. It would be an AJAX page whether or not I added more AJAX to it (which I did). The other functionality added was a chat feature so you can talk to others on the page simultaneously. I chose AJAX over Java because of the increased speed and platform availability. My users don't have to install software in order to use my page. IE6, Firefox, or any other modern browser work just Jim-dandy.

Please don't base your website on trendy buzz-words
- Will your AJAX work on my PSP?
[reply]
My website is BASED on HTML and _javascript_, with a PHP/MySQL backend. What moniker would you prefer instead of AJAX? I'm open to suggestions on this point, I hate trendy buzzwords as much as the next guy.
Don't take this wrong, but I don't care if my page or any AJAX page works on PSP. I've browsed with PSP before, and even sites that are optimized for it suck on PSP. The PSP is a handheld game machine first, a browser second. I can browse web pages on any number of devices. Even if they are optimized for my Razr or Treo, they still suck. When I wanna browse, I use a PC.

It's good practice to make sure your website will still function
without any
_Javascript & then you are free to add in extras.

Agreed, but the functionality we were going for in creating this site would have been completely impossible without _javascript_. Sometimes _javascript_ is necessary, even if some classify it as a necessary evil. Besides the fact that this is a private site which is available by invitation only, therefore I do have a fair amount of control over which browsers will be used.

Sorry for being so negative, but I just have a pet hate for the terms
AJAX & WEB 2.0
- they basically mean "My website won't work properly"
Best Regards & Apologies for my rudeness,

You could avoid having to apologize for being rude in the future by simply not being rude. I didn't ask for your opinion on _javascript_ or AJAX. I realize you are free to share it regardless, but expect at least some opposition to your viewpoints. Also, this is the last word I'm going to say on this matter on this list. No flamewars for me thanks.

Riquez, some of your points are well taken, but your delivery was not. Thanks for the debate either way.
