I don't know why you are escaping the dot in the
htaccess file. I have never had to escape characters in a htaccess file.
Why don't you test the referrer URL at the very beginning of the page in
PHP.
If the connection is via http instead of https then send a redirection
header to the browser.
The header MUST be the very first thing sent as even if one space or line
feed is sent to the browser then the header has already been sent and cannot
be sent again.
Look up header() and referrer() at PHP.net
