Wishing every one of you a very happy and prosperous 2007!
Also, please welcome your new moderators, Rob and Gordon. Both have
been around for a little while, and both have experience running and
moderating a list, and have assured me that they will continue to
uphold the high standards we have around here.
And with that, I'll be stepping back for a while. I'll still be the
group "owner," and will occasionally pop my head in now and again, but
by and large, my time for list-moderating (or even list-reading) has
dwindled down to nothing.
So, thanks Gordon, and thanks Rob, for taking the reins.
See you in 2007!
Bob Sawyer
PHP-List Group Owner
and former Moderator. :-)
----------------------------
Hi All,
I am the new moderator (Rob) mentioned above and I though I would
take this oppertunity to introduce myself.
But firstly may I wish Bob Sawyer all the best in his new vetures and thanks
Bob for getting this list to where it is today. I dearly hope that some of
the time freed up by not having to moderate this list is well spent with
your family.
To everyone else, I hope my efforts here keep this list group trouble free.
As an experienced moderator from chat rooms to list groups may I offer you
all one thing that I have learnt. As you all know, the most dissruptive of
posts are the "flaming" post by whatever flame it may be. For example the
"you called me dum" post.
This situation - with rare exceptions - results from missinterpreting
another members comments and lets face it, the keyboard has much less
bandwidth than the brain. So I ask the more mature members to be tollerent
of other members, particularly newcomers and to remember that some members
speek english as a second language. Some times the intended "attitude" of a
post is easily missinterpreted.
About me - I am a PC application programmer who has turned to internet
platforms and now I am on a path to integrating PC based technologies into
web sites. My target is to use AJAX like scripting to make web sites behave
more like a PC applications. Of corse this involves PHP and MySQL along with
Javascript.
So here are my good points and bad points.
GOOD -
Programming methodology
Server management (Apache).
Extended internet functions like setting up name servers and zones.
Customer relations
Approachable person
Tolerant
BAD -
Making Javascript cross browser compatible!! aaaggh
Mixing up syntax in different languages$;.
Tolerant.
Poor memory.
Tolerant.
All the best for the new year.
Rob.
