No, Ajax will fetch info from your server, and update part of the page, without a complete page refresh. I use it a lot, for things like, "enter your email address to be added to our mail list", and when you press refresh, the text changes to "thank you, blah blah" without refreshing the page. You need something in Javascript. Put wysiwyg textarea javascript into Google, and you will see quite a few. I have quite a few of these running, but they are all in user areas, so not accessible to the public. I have used fckeditor, and openWYSIWYG (http://www.openwebware.com/).
