Greetings, all;
Recently, I'd been kicking around the idea of adding a new mailing
list just for those interested in tracking the network status and
health of php.net systems, including those used internally and
mirrors. At present, things are sent to a couple of addresses,
including [email protected] and [email protected]. While that's
not such a bad thing for those who want to keep up on the trends of
the network, it's not exactly ideal for the masses in general.
A few moments ago, after receiving some constructive criticism, I
decided to go ahead and create a new list just for status updates:
[email protected]. Starting first with mirrors, as those
are the most prevalent public network status updates, I'm going to
have all activation, deactivation, creation, expulsion, and automatic
status modification messages sent to that list only, so that
[email protected] will remain as low-traffic as it should
(announcements and the occasional discussions only), but those who
would like to continue to receive updates can still do so simply by
subscribing to the new list.
With that in mind, Martin, I'm wondering if it might make more
sense to have the Nagios alerts go to that address, as well. Off the
top of my head, I'm not able to think of any security implications,
and since some of the systems are handled by folks who manage them for
us can't receive [email protected] emails (i.e. - not part of the actual
project, but perhaps a sponsor, et cetera), it might make it easier
for them to keep up on notifications. And if we do switch it over, it
will also make [email protected] quieter for those who don't want to get
all of the individual alerts (such as the K1 SSH stuff from
yesterday). Your thoughts?
As for the mirrors stuff, I'll be pushing those commits shortly,
so for anyone who wants to stay up-to-speed on mirror network health,
go ahead and send an email to [email protected]
and you'll be good to go.
Thanks, all.
