[PHP-WEBMASTER] News groups inoperative

The newsgroups have been inoperative for me, perhaps for a year now.  I frequently used them for perhaps 5 years and 
contributed often.

I'm aware of the mail list; but, find it to be inconvenient for my workflow.
These simply time out whenever I ask to fetch messages.
