I say this knowing very little of the subject matter but... is there
really no way to build the CHMs on *nix? I'd be happy to look into
this if it's simply a case of someone putting the time in to make it
work.

Looking round the net I can find a few unofficial but comprehensive
documents detailing the file format. Is there a blocker to this other
than simply not having a tool for the job at present?
