Hi Hannes, I'm in Greece and running the dig command returns nothing
root@newblood:~# dig +short @geo1.easydns.com www.php.net root@newblood:~# I remind you that there is no Greek mirror currently. I used to run a mirror for many years and we had it running under a company of the group that was sold. I asked to change the mirror provider name but the choice then was to shut down the mirror. Our company (ACE-Hellas) is a software house. We mainly do software for Engineers but we also do for some B2B customers web sites and portals (we do use of course PHP but we also do ASP projects). I don't know if that business falls under the list of acceptable candidates. If it is I can set up the mirror again and apply officially so we have a mirror site in Greece. Hi all This is a heads up that we are planning on rolling out GeoDNS for www.php.net this week! For now only www.php.net will be in GeoDNS (not "php.net"). The new mirror-test script updates the geo records hourly which registers our known country mirrors for that particular geo zone. We might later on improve this by registering mirrors also for certain continents - so lookups from countries where we don't have a mirror will at least be answered from that continent. You are encouraged to verify you get accurate results already by executing the following: $ dig +short @geo1.easydns.com www.php.net This should return a cname to a mirror in the country the server is located in. Keep in mind, we usually have several mirrors per-country so you may need to run this a few times to get your own mirror. When we go live, you can verify the same with just: $ dig +short www.php.net I'll send a final note once we've made the final changes to trigger this process. If you experience any issues with this, please let me know. -Hannes -- PHP Webmaster List Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
