You can only catch exceptions.

<?php
try {
        ....Script with lots of fatal errors.....
} catch (Exception $exception) {
   echo "all ok";
}
?>

will allways result in fatal error

<?php
try {
        throw new Exception();
} catch (Exception $exception) {
   echo "all ok";
}
?>

results in "all ok" though.

Thanks. Is there any way to catch fatal errors, and have the script do
something else more gracefull. Like maybe log the error and redirect or
something.

Hi,

You can do:

$data = '[i:something]';
$array_data = explode(':',$data);

and you will have:
'[i' in $array_data[0]
'something]' in $array_data[1]

If i understod corretly, you want to get only something, so you need $array_data[1]. To take off brackets, just use str_replace();

Hoppe this helps,
Jordi.

If the format is consistantly the same, try this:

$somedata = "[i:aslkdfj]";
$insidedata = substr($somedata,3,strlen($somedata)-4);

Assuming you are doing just one string at a time:
<?
$str = "[i:abcdef]";
#[i:bcdefg]
#[i:xyzab]
#[i:priftds]

$regex = "/(\[i:)(\w+)(\])/i";
preg_match($regex, $str, $matches);

print $str;//original string
print substr($matches[2], 1, 3);//trimmed string
?>

Or, better, you can do :

I was having a performance problem when running any php pages on IIS 6, the
problem was that the page would load in the browser extremely slow, running
a simple loop would take ages to output anything. I didn't get into testing
much to find out where the speed issues are exactly but I found a fix for
the problem. Also to note was there was no noticeable load on the server
(cpu or memory) while processing.

After googling around a bit and seeing a number of people with similar
problems I started going through the php.ini file to see what could be
causing the performance problem.

What I found was simply setting output-buffering to "on" in the php.ini
dramatically increased the speed. (Don't ask me why)

I now have php operating fine on IIS6

Trevor Gryffyn wrote:
I'm doing my own and plan to keep developing it. I feel the same way,
those other scripts are really neat but they do WAY too much for what I
want.

The script that powers the link below is one file, no database setup
(currently and I'm thinking about keeping it that way... Or making a
PHP5 version using SQLLite), nothing fancy.

Current functionality:
1. Upload filename.[bmp|jpg|gif|png(?)|forget what other formats] to a
folder along with a "tn_filename.jpg" file as the thumbnail. If no
thumbnail is available, it will try to use the full image as a thumbnail
but only if it's under a certain size (set in variable)
2. Dynamic # of columns to display (set in variable)
3. Auto-resizes thumbnails in <img> tag to fit in the table nicely..
Proportions are maintained
4. Displays full size image with forward/back/first/last/back to
thumbnails controls that ghost when you hit the beginning or end of the
images

Things left to do:
1. Have it dynamically scan the directories under the script's directory
for dirs with images and get dir descriptions and such. Right now I
have a static menu that doesn't cover all the image directories I have
uploaded
2. Make it so each image can have it's own text description so you don't
have to rely on descriptive filenames.
3. Add an "upload" feature
4. Generate thumbnails serverside instead of requiring the user to
generate their own
5. Use text files or SQLLite to store description of files. I think
many people under-estimate the power of a simple formatted text file as
a data storage device. There's zero server overhead for using file()
to load a text file and you can parse it's data into arrays or whatever
as a simple micro flat database
6. Make it all a little nicer looking

Some of this functionality I already have in other scripts, just havn't
had time to incorporate it into my "Photohunt" script, so it's kind of
rough looking right now.

Here are the links -

Main Photohunt site with some stuff in it:
http://www.gryffyndevelopment.com/photohunt/

Photos from Hurricane Isabel's flooding of downtown Annapolis, MD
http://www.h18.org/photohunt/index.php?imagedir=flood
http://www.h18.org/photohunt/index.php?imagedir=flood2

I'll continue to develop this.. Just moved into a new house and have tons of unpacking to do still though.

I wasn't going to post this because everyone else had such
uber-developed photo gallery scripts being posted but since it was
depressiong you, Bobo, to think that everyone was using pre-fabricated
scripts I thought I'd try to brighten your day a little. Haha.

My friends ask me why I choose to re-invent the wheel and write my own
scripts.. It's because it makes it MINE.. And I can it to do whatever I
want it to do. And it's fun :)

Doesn't anybody do their own thing anymore? This is so boring, uninspiring and depressing...
Does any of the suggested gallery code do exactly what Lenny asked for? In my experience you always get a lot more then you want

when

using packages like this. And if you want to do something different

with it

it's difficult to find out where to add what because of the massive over-head of code...

Making a simple upload form and a db for the description shouldn't be to hard, should it?

I am trying to find a photo gallery (Preferrably PHP based) that I can set
up for a client that would allow him/her to upload their own photos, and
leave a caption under. The client will update the album regularly and wants
to be able to do it on their own. They wouold also like to have a
description of the photo underneath that they would also like to be able to
create themselves. Kinda like the yahoo or msn group photos.
TIA

Hi,

1: can anyone tell me how to do a session ID in the URL?

so you could have something like:

www.someserver.com/figures.php?what=about&sid=123d8asf87yf9013987rfr

How do I get it to do that sort of thing?

2: Can you change the font face in the Create Image thingy, so instead of it being something like this:
I want something like Lucida Blackletter or something.

Many thanks,

Dan

--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message --- There are a few ways of doing it. The way that I always append it is by doing the following:

<a href="<?=$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']?>/page.php?what=about&sid=<?=$PHPSESSID?>">Link to page</a>

Slightly off php topic

I would like to know if I can change the default date format on MySQL server
either for the entire server or for a particular database, as apposed to
formatting the date every time I input data or retrieve it out the database.

Thanks
Steven

Disclaimers are not legally binding in email, so I have no idea why people
feel the need to include them. The reason why disclaimers are not legally
binding in email is because the recipient has no way to read the disclaimer
and reject the email prior to reading the message, it would be like forcing
them to agree to anything you write in email just because they "read" that
email. The disclaimer must precept the message and must allow for the
recipient to be able to reject the disclaimer and the message without risk
of reading the intended message which is inferred by the disclaimer.
Although it can be argued how software installs before displaying a
disclaimer but the sad truth is that if anyone wanted to claim no fault
acceptance of the disclaimer, they could. Which is why new online games now
require you to accept their disclaimers and ToS everytime you play and it
precepts the ability to actually play the game, If you disagree to either it
exits the program, which is the way the disclaimer laws were written. Now
lets go even further and just make a logical statement, How can you control
whether the intended user has recieved the email and if not, what the
non-intended user does with that information? Exactly you can't and fault
of misdirected email fails squarly on the shoulders of the sender, not the
recipient.

I can see that Svensson, just as I am, is tired of recieving this spam at
the end of messages by these people. Soon they have to realize that their
disclaimers hold no water and no legal protection.

Tony

Whilst I agree with the sentiments of Tony and B.A.T., some of us must as a
condition of using their employers' email facilities, add company
disclaimers to their messages.

As long as they don't start to appear at the top of messages, I will
continue to ignore them.

Even thou I might agree with Tony, his full opinion in this matter may
not necessarily be shared with me. I did not intended to ask them not
include these disclaimer, I just wanted to protect my own rights of
privacy. :)

I do know that some employees are forced by the company board to add
such disclaimers. Managers are know by engineers to make decision that
an engineer might not agree with.
