In which case you might be out of luck... I've tried building from
source with cygwin / gcc, but every binary that I've tried building that
way segfaults like mad. Although I haven't invested a lot of time
making it work since I'm not really familiar with gcc. If you manage to
build it this way I would love to hear what your environment is / what
you did to get it to build.
I know that building with Visual Studio works, although it seems a
little silly to buy a license for it when you're just trying to remove a
few functions, eh?

Hi,
Why would you want to build PHP on windows. In the downloads section of
the
site you can find precompiled binaries for PHP including all the
extensions.

Subject: [PHP-WIN] PHP & GD on Windows
I am new to building and runnning PHP on windows. I have only used Linux
in
the past, but I need to get it on a windows box. I have built PHP
sucessfully by following the instructions in the manual, but I would like
to
add GD, JPEG and PNG support, and the FREETYPE library. I have gathered
all
the source for these, but I am now unsure how to make this all happen.
The
source that I downloaded for GD and the JPEG library do not seem to have
any
dsw files to build from. The PNG and FREETYPE had the dsw files, but
when
I
tried to build the files I got build errors.
I also noticed that in a GD readme file it said its pointless to build it
because all you need is the DLL.
Is there any good tutorials or anyone that knows how to get all of this
to
work? I am very confused on getting this all to run on windows.

Hey, I have VS so if you want to give me the instructions on
compilation, I'd be happy to do it for you.
Regards,
Kevin

I've been trying to compile PHP on windows using VC++7, and although it
"works" in most cases, and even quite a number of extensions compile
(after editing various minor things), it still occasionally suddenly
crashes, for apparently no reason at all.
I'm quite interested at how it's being built on the snaps.php.net server
(or whichever servers is used for it), because those appear to be pretty
stable.
As for the GD library; I've found no (relatively easy) way yet to make
php compile the extension...

P.S still trying though, so if anyone has any ideas :) they're certainly
welcome...
