Yesterday, I decided to update PHP521 to 522 and update the MySQL
server/client to the latest as I was having strange connection problems.

In the end the decision turned out to be just right.
It took me several tries to delete the existing copy of MySQL in order to
do a clean install.
However, I now know what one has to do to remove the 'root' of MySQL
program from Windows2000, he, he.

PHP installs just fine with out doing a clean install. Just install right
into the PHP directory. I had to fix the confused php.ini from the
install, (numerous extensions where copied right on top of the others so I
had double of the same extension many times. Path statements where placed
in strange places as well.
This was a small adjustment as anyone using PHP in time gets to know the
.ini file very well.

Hope this helps,
Blessings,
Chetan

Hi there!

Thanx all!

The problem is solved. The MSI Windows installer added an extra \ to the path!?

One other note about inconsistensy in connection to DB, in the above
upgrading with both PHP and MySQL I also dnloaded the latest ODBC
connector and then dnloaded the latest "MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver" and my
connections are consistent now. I also checked the TCP/IP & MySQL
services on IIS.

The Wininstaller for PHP522 misstyped the c:\\php\ext;;" in my environment
variables path statement.
One does in time learn every place the PHP/SQL installation is connecting
and talking, and may check and make fixes.
Too bad it takes much time spent in pain and frustration to get there.
And I am still a baby in this big wide world of the Web and applications.

Chetan

Dynamically update mysql field

  I have a function that will populate the table cells (TD) with data
(information) from mysql database.
  What I need to do is to allow the user to update the cell information
(information was pulled from mysql database) from the table cells (TD) then the
data get updated in mysql. So when I pull the data again I can see the new
information.
  Is there any way to do this using PHP?

Yes I am sure that this can be done but we need more information before recommending a solution.

Hello all,

  I am having a problem sending an email from PHP 4.1.3/IIS 5.0. I am using a
PHP Class called phpmailer. The problem occurs when the mailer tries to open
a socket to my SMTP server. I can get the same error with this little bit of
code:
// Begin test code
$fp = fsockopen("smtp.example.com", 25, $errno, $errstr, 30);

if($errno == 0 && !$fp){
        // error occurred before the socket was opened
        print "Error occurred before connect() call";
}elseif(!$fp){
        // error opening socket
        print "$errstr ($errno)<br>\n";
}else{
        print "socket opened";
}
// End test code

When I run the code above, this is the output:
Bad file descriptor (9)

Can anyone tell me what this error means?

The server is provided by my ISP so I have no control over it.

Thanks,
James

I have a situation where I am unable to connect to a Microsoft SQL
2005 Database from Windows Server 2003 (IIS + PHP 5.0.4).

here is the code:
<?php
require_once 'DB.php';
$dsn = "mssql://aspj_transfer:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/transfer_station";
$db = DB::connect($dsn);
if (DB::isError($db))
{
        die ($db->getMessage().'<br>'.$db->getUserInfo());
}
// no useful info. just trying to return something.
$query = "select [name] as n from sysobjects order by [name]";
$data =& $db->query($query);
while ($row = $data->fetchRow())
{
        echo $row[0]."<br>";
}
$db->disconnect();
?>

Here is the error:

[DB Error: connect failed] **
mssql://aspj_transfer:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/transfer_station

From my workstation, this can connect just fine (Windows XP, IIS, PHP 5.0.4).

There aren't any firewalls between the machines.

Any suggestions?

Jody
