If gethostbyname() fails to resolve the host it returns the hostname.
<?php
$hostname = "www.blizzard.com"
if (gethostbyname($hostname) == $hostname) {
print "Unable to resolve";
}
?>
Also you have to remove the http:// part as it only takes the host, not
urls as parameters.
