This happened to me just yesterday... In a W2K English box the script would work ok...
In a W98 and WMil Portuguese box, the scripts wouldn't get any values... To me looked like a flunky internationalization bug somewhere in the OS... mayhappen someone has the resources to investigate this further (feel free to email me directly if that's the case)...
