Hey guys -
Is anyone out there a JOIN guru?
I've read the MySQL Manual's section on JOINs thorougly, and understand
the concepts, but I'm really struggling to find practical applications.
In my personal experience, everything I've ever needed to do with a
JOIN, I can do with inner join. I'm meticulous about normalizing my
databases, so I'm usually just selecting records joined by a parent
ID/common value.
I'm under the impression from what I've read that by using various JOIN
methods, you're essentially indicating to the mysql optimizer the method
best used to optimize a query. I'd love take some queries that are
fairly typical of the things that we web-developers do regularly, and
optimize them for better performance using various types of JOINs. I
think that if I saw a few real-life applications, the lightbulb will
come on. :)
Best,
Jeromie
