WAMP is generally used to refer to a webserver
platform using Windows (computer operating system),
Apache (web server software), MySQL (database
management) and PHP (scripting/programming).

XAMPP is a project of ApacheFriends.org designed at
giving users an easily-installable webserver
environment across several different platforms: "X" is
for any operating system, A for Apache, M for MySQL, P
for PHP, and P for Perl.  (Versions are available for
Linux and Windows, betas are available for Solaris
SPARC and Mac OS X).
