Calculates the sha1 hash of <parameter>filename</parameter> using the
<ulink url="&url.rfc;rfc3174.html">US Secure Hash Algorithm 1</ulink>,
and returns that hash. The hash is a 40-character hexadecimal number.
Upon failure, &false; is returned.
