According my experience it is not a PATH problem at all. I am trying to connect to Oracle 9i with PHP 4.2/4.3, Apache 1.3/2.0 without success for many hours :( I copied OCI.DLL many times almost everywhere, also PATH is set correctly. Might be problem of PHP, Oracle, or both simply cannot communicate.
If someone ever succeded running Oracle 9i R2 with PHP please mail me. Nelo

This has now been documented, see:

Thanks for the report :)

Hm... it seems to me a good idea to note somewhere in the manual that PHP (or Windows) searches for DLL's in %PATH% and %SYSTEM%.
Reopening as a documentation problem.

Of course, it is NOT a bug of php.

After failed many times, I happened to find the cause. I think it maybe helpful for many people who reported or asked the same question that I have seen on www.php.net .
It is the PATH has not been correctly set.
When loading php_oci8.dll, this DLL file search for the other DLL
file "oci.dll" in current directory, PATH environment and %SYSTEM%(on
Windows). If oci.dll can not be found, the OS will tell you "Unable to
load dynamic library : php_oci8.dll". If you installed Oracle RDBMS on
your system, then the file "oci.dll" is in Oralce Home directory. So
you must include "Oracle Home Directory " in PATH environment, on my computer it is "D:\Oracle\ora81\Bin". Perhaps, the same problem on
different platform can be solved in same way, try it.
I am lucky to find the cause in almost ten days, I hope people will
not be worried about this problem any longer.
