Yep, this list was supposed to be extended to some limited author list or a complete author list (including people with at least one commit) as some people suggest. I favor the first approach.
I assumed this particular list would be limited to the old timer major contributers and that a complete list would go elsewhere as otherwise these people would get lost in the shuffle. I don't offer a solution though. Also, I don't feel like an old timer :)
I thought I was clear by proposing two author lists: one on the frontpage and one in the contributors section. I have suggested the same for the editors list. That means more all time authors get added to the list of those currently listed as all time authors. (At least this was my suggestion, which is alredy implemented on the user note editors list). I have also not suggested that we list all people, so I don't see that these guys would get lost in the shuffle. If we list all time "major" contributors, then that list will not get much longer, then the current "all time user note editors" list.
