The functable might still have some problems with OO methods. anyway it
isn't run for a long time.
When my vacations start, this is one more thing I'll try to look at.

I reversed the commit, though I do want to point out that the current
SimpleXML manual pages have no version information displayed for them.
Instead, they all say:
(no version information, might be only in CVS)
I added the notes so that people reading the docs wouldn't get confused
and assume that, since they are running PHP 5, they can use these new
functions.
