We have way to many (read: all except Japanese and French) outdated
translations that noone seems to care about. So, my personal opinion
is not to create maillinglist/module/spread karma until
"proof-of-willingness" to do the job is shown, i.e. having 30% of the
manual translated...
I agree!
The translations are a problem, many are dead, but this proposal
looks pretty legit.
While starting this process please feel free to point out any
problems and concerns in the HOWTO. It needs a major update in most
areas so hearing what the process is like for a new translation team
will be valuable information.
Setting up a new translation is not a simple task and requires time
from people who don't have much time these days. The catalan thread
[1] (our most recent [2005] new translation afaik) should help
provide information to document the process. This process is
partially documented[2] but the implementation information suffers
but once we have that then we'll make it easier for someone to
dedicate this time. I'll write systems@ later today and Cc this list.
