I would go with this suggestion to make a compound adjective (iirc). I
am not sure if there is some preference towards hyphenating in British
English compared to American English, or vice versa, but I would
hyphenate most of the examples given in this discussion thread! Either
way, with or without hyphen, the "bytes" should definitely be
singular.
