The code should render traffic, even if your configuration is bad.. At this
point I would have to say that it maybe a firewall issue on the server
itself.  What type of operating system are you running?  What did you use to
sniff on your network and did you do so on the box itself hub/switch or on
the remote LDAP server box?  There could be a myriad of network or services
to cause this.  I would start by investigating these first.
