If you use $phptal->setSource("<p>error!"), PHPTAL will report that you've got error in "<string> XXX" line 1, and won't tell you which file you need to fix. In non-trivial program, with lots of templates used this way, this may be a problem.
All this matters only in relatively rare situations, so if it doesn't seem useful to you, then don't worry, you probably don't need it.
