Olga Natkovich commented on PIG-136:
------------------------------------
Stefan, this was a general comment about major changes to build.xml. They are
desraptive for 2 reasons:
- the rearrangements that are done can cause build failures and need for manual
cleanup of directories as happened last time
- they are also hard to test because we don't have a way to automate the
testing. And last time it took us about a day to get things back in order.
That said, sometimes this type of changes are quite necessary but I just want
us to be careful when deciding to do it since there is cost associated with it.
Regarding library re-arrangements, my preference would be not to tie it to
hadoop 0.16 upgrade but to have a general discussion on how this should be
done. I am fine reopenning this bag a changing the title to "Integration with
hadoop and other libraries. or openning a separate one. Let me know how you
would like to proceed.

> Since we want to use pig soon in a production scenario and our grid have to
> run hadoop 0.16 it would be great to update the hadoop version pig is using.
> Also I think it is always a good idea to try to keep up and code against the
> latest version since it keeps the gap small.
