Is that possible to disable encryption in a already populated store?
short answer: not really, longer answer: probably, see below.
I imported several emails to my new server with encryption enabled. I
want to disable, as this machine is actually a VM in a encrypted LVM
volume.
By default piler encrypts the archived emails. You may turn encryption
off
if you like, however it tells pilerget that messages are not encrypted,
it
doesn't need the encryption key. However the truth is quite the
opposite
for the already archived emails.
However the gui is smart enough and if the retrieved message is null
(ie.
a decryption failure happened), then it calls pilerget again with the
"noencrypt" argument, so it may retrieve the unencrypted message as
well.
Feel free to try, however note that it's an unofficial workaround, and
it's not supported at all. It's best to decide before deploying an
archive
whether you need encryption or not, then not change it later.
My personal view on the matter that even if you have an encrypted LVM,
it's still worth to encrypting the stored emails. Many legal stuffs
actually require encryption of the archived emails. Anyway it's up to
you.
