OK, given that I'm no longer able to do this so it's from memory:

There are three communicating parts to this setup:

1) The PDA which establishes a TCP/IP connection to the
"hotsync server". The PDA needs to be set up to do a sync
    across a network.

2) A system with the cradle.

If this is Windows this system needs to run the Hotsync
program but it will just act as a proxy. The user's data
    comes from the "hotsync server".

If this part is a UNIX system all that is needed is a getty
or plain ol' pppd talking to TCP/IP across the serial port to
the PDA along with either NAT or packet forwarding.

3) A "hotsync server" system. This is a computer that speaks the
Network Hotsync protocol. This is the system where the
    user's data lives.

The gnu-designs page shows an example of the
"server" system being an Windows system in a VMWare guest.
I used to do this with a normal (non-virtual) NT system.
It's not clear to me what bit of UNIX software serves this
    function.

I believe what is necessary is to:

a) Connect the Visor cradle to NT... er um... is this a serial
cradle? NT doesn't do USB. W2K does.

b) Install the standard Windows version of Hotsync on NT

c) Customize Hotsync (I _think_ all that's necessary is to
enable "Local" hotsync and "Network"). Read the Hotsync
    Help.

d) Set up the Visor for direct-connect Network Hotsync. This
will depend on the PalmOS in the Visor. Main thing to
remember is that you're NOT doing a local hotsync. The
button on the cradle might do the WRONG thing.

Plus the Solaris-end setup. Sorry, I'm of no help here. The
http://www.gnu-designs.com/pilot-link/nhsync/ page stops about
where I _think_ it was going to address this.
