        Even more reason for me (or someone else? *HINT*) to start crafting a
Palm Diagnostic HOWTO, which covers this, and how to detect and resolve issues
with it.

        1. What kind of machine (Intel? x86? Athlon? PPC)

        2. What kind of UARTs? (16550? 16550AF? other?)

        3. What does 'setserial -a' on the port show?

        4. What is your PILOTPORT and PILOTRATE environment set to, if any?

                4a. Does this result change if you set PILOTRATE to 9600 and
                    try again?

        5. What is the speed of your serial/cradle connection on the Palm?
           (HotSync->Menu->Connection->Cradle->Edit->Details->Speed)

        6. Does this work under Windows on the same PHSICAL hardware?

        7. If you have IR hardware, does it work over IR?

        That should give us a good head-start on figuring this out. This seems
to come up about once a month, so it might need to get dropped into the
non-existant FAQ for such things.
