The latest kernel versions (2.4.x) have support for this device.
For syncing, you can either get the latest version of coldsync, or try
the ppp network sync with the palm (links for how to do this are in the
mailing list archives.)

People are activly working on the native pilot-link support for these
devices, please be patient, or provide programming help :)

I have no idea of how StarOffice talks to the Palm device.  Does it use
pilot-xfer, or it's own code?  If it's own code, you need to talk to
those developers.
